Game of Thrones

I honestly think this is one of the best books I have ever read.  It sucked me in from the first chapter clear until the end.  The characters are so diverse and interesting.  I even found myself rooting for both sides of a conflict.  I fell in love with many of the characters. George R. R. Martin did such an amazing job creating an entire universe to lose yourself in.  I love that he wrote the book with each chapter being from the point of view of one of the many main characters .  It kept it interesting and exciting.  He has so many great, important people in this book that there is someone for everyone to love.
I have started book number 2 Clash of Kings. It introduces characters that you only read about and never saw their point of view in book 1 and I am really enjoying it so far as well.

Finished American On Purpose

So I finished American On Purpose.  It was really really good!  I found it pretty hard to put down.  It was mostly stories from Craig's childhood and they all led to how he became a citizen and why he always wanted to live in America.  The stories were funny, honest, sometimes sad, and even enlightening.  We often forget that there are people out there who would do just about anything to live here.  We take for granted what we have.  I think we are all guilty of it to some extent.  I would recommend this book to anyone.  It had something for everyone.

I am in the middle of A Game of Thrones.  It is completely sucked me in.  I have found myself getting my kindle out and reading all the time.  Even when I only have a few minutes in a doctor's waiting room or something.

Friends of mine have been talking about this book series and resulting tv series around me for months and I am so glad I finally decided to give it a try.  I will post more about it when I get to finish the first book.

My Booky Wook

Finished up My Booky Wook.  It was pretty good.

I have started American on Purpose by Craig Ferguson the host of The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson on CBS.  It is really interesting!  Looking forward to finishing it tomorrow.

Short post tonight as I am suffering through a migraine.  Will give more details on My Booky Wook tomorrow.

1 book down 50 or so more to go this year

So I finished Are You There Vodka? It's me Chelsea while waiting in the doctors office this afternoon. I have always found Chelsea Handler to be hilarious.  I used to watch her show every night, even reruns when we still subscribed to cable. (We found that 70 bucks a month was stupid when we rarely watched tv.  We watch a lot of Netflix on the Wii)  This was the first book of hers that I have read and I can tell you I find her even more funny now.  To read her thoughts and crazy things that have happened to her over the years was just so much fun.  This book was funny enough that I am working on getting the rest of her books to read as soon as possible!  Many times my husband had to ask me what is so funny because I would just start laughing out loud while reading.  I think a few times he suspected I had seen something goofy or embarrassing he had done only to realize I was reading my book again.  I finished this book so fast I found myself wondering how it could possibly be over already.  I look forward to reading the rest of her books soon.

Next up on my list to read is by another comic that can easily offend but I find hilarious.  I need some humor in my life after the hectic mess that is the holiday season.  So I will be likely reading a few more before I go back to the more serious stuff.  Anyways, I will be reading My Booky Wook by Russel Brand.  Watched his Comedy Central special again recently on Netflix and I think it is time to give his writing a try too.

Finally a challenge!

Christmas day I opened up the best gift my inlaws could have possibly gotten for me...  a Kindle!  I have always been a big reader but because of many different reasons I just haven't been reading as much the past few years.

Well as someone who has struggled with insomnia for well over 10 years now  I remember times as a teen/early twenty something getting so engrossed with a book I was reading that I would read an entire book in one night.  I am one of those people (that many people hate)  that can read things very fast and yet still retain so much of the information to pass a test on things.  Always served me well in school.  

The Kindle was such a great gift for many reasons but for me the best is I don't have to go to a store or wait for a book to be shipped to have something to read.  I deal with some pretty severe anxiety issues (a topic that will probably be in my blog a lot) so going to a busy bookstore or even driving some days is just too much.

I had not even asked for a kindle because it just seemed too expensive a gift considering that my in laws had giving us their almost brand new side by side fridge a few months ago when ours took a crap on us.  I was so excited when I opened it up!  I have been reading at least a book a day since Christmas.  Not an exaggeration...

So I had seen some different reading challenges posted over the years but never bothered to participate.  I finally found one that I am actually pretty excited to work on.  Maybe a few others too but for now I am going to be participating in the A to Z Challenge 2012.  I chose to go with option 3 to do both option 1 and 2 for a total of 52 books.  I am almost done with book #1 on my list.  I just so happened to have started an A book last night before I found the challenge this morning so I figured it was a perfect time to start!

I will post more later just wanted to get this started so I can get myself entered.
